Zhou Yi, The second-level arts and crafts master of Beijing
Zhou Yi was born in July of 1959. In 1979, he entered Beijing Gold Lacquer Inlaid Factory to work, and took arts and crafts master Liu Xiheng and Zhang Xiuzhen as his teacher. Liu Xiheng was the fourth inheritor of Su Mingtang, who was the leader of palace lacquer painting master of Qing Dynasty, as well as founder of Yingming Zhai. Thus Zhou Yi became the fifth inheritor of Su Mingtang.
In 1986, he went to College of Fine Arts of Beijing University of Technology to study modern painting theory and professional knowledge systematically and comprehensively. After graduated there, he went back to the factory to work on designing and producing of lacquer arts. From this process, he mastered some techniques such as colored painting.
In 2005, through recommending by Beijing Arts and Crafts Industry Association, judging by Beijing Traditional Arts and Crafts Evaluation Committee, identifying by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Industry, Zhou Yi was awarded as the third-level arts and crafts master of Beijing. And in 2008, he participated in National vocational skills training examination and got the senior colored drawing and carved filling technician certificate.
In 1986, Zhou Yi produced Palace Dancing with the technique of colored painting got the Golden Cup of Hundred Flowers of Chinese Arts and Crafts. In 1997, the carved grey screen Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival he produced got Beijing arts and crafts excellent award.
In 2005, he designed and produced colored painting screen Dream Flying on his own and this work got Arts and Crafts Cup excellent work of Beijing. In 2008, the Red Lacquer Carved Filling Canopy Bed got gold prize of Lacquer Flower Cup in Chinese Lacquer Ware Fine Arts Exhibition.
